NBTY, Inc., Bohemia, NY, has ac­quired Health & Diet Group Ltd and the FSC wholesale business from Royal Numico N.V., Zoetermeer, The Netherlands. Health & Diet Group owns and operates 49 GNC stores in the U.K. and seven GNC stores in Germany. FSC is a Manchester, U.K.-based wholesale operation whose products are sold to health food stores and pharmacies. The operations had total sales of approximately $57 million. The purchase price for these businesses was approximately $12 million plus FSC inventory at cost.

In other news, Humanetics Corporation, Minneapolis, MN, has signed a license agreement with NBTY to offer and sell Humanetics’ proprietary weight loss ingredient, 7-Keto. NBTY has introduced an ephedra-free 7-Keto weight loss product called X­treme Trim 7-Keto, in its Vitamin World chain.
